    Usury

The Messenger of God said, “God condemns the one who takes, pays, witnesses, or notarizes a usurious transaction.” Abu Dawud

Does that mean working at bank is haram? Even like being a teller at some bank?

    President Hosts Iftaar Dinner

White House mentions: President Hosts Iftaar Dinner

Highlighted excerpt... "America is fortunate to count such good-hearted men and women among our fellow citizens. We have great respect for the commitment that all Muslims make to faith, family, and education. And Americans of many backgrounds seek to learn more about the rich tradition of Islam. To promote greater understanding between our cultures, I have encouraged American families to travel abroad, to visit with Muslim families. And I have encouraged American families to host exchange students from the Muslim world. I have asked young Americans to study the language and customs of the broader Middle East. And for the first time in our nation's history, we have added a Koran to the White House Library. "

We can shout, we can scream, he is a bad dude, an evil man, but everytime he and his team know how to play their cards! None of us can claim that he is against us with such an action, altough all of us feel this is setup to gain goodwill. Any supporter of him will acuse us of bad intentions when we complain or protest......... pr, such a powerfull tool!

Btw, has anyone said Ramadan Mubarak on this site? Ooops and it's almost Ied!!! Ramadan Kareem to everyone!

    Recommendation

I started reading this book, Muhammad his life based on the earliest sources by Martin Lings. If you are interested in seerah, which you should be, by deafult, then read this one. So far, this is the best one I have encountered in English. A staple in your collection.

    Moi

Who is moi, who am I, that's what and that's why I wonder..... God warrum habben sie mir verlassen was said once in a movie line! But I would say: God, after all, you stay with me, why? SubhanAllah I praise thou.... what You have done for me, lessons I have learned... insight I have received! Can I ask one more favor? They pain in the world, I can't take away, why do I feel it then? I mean.... it seems sometimes so useless, all I want to do, thought rise in my head, plans I draw! How much has come true untill now?

But then I realise, what you have given to me: love.... from my friends and family, but most off all: my beloved one and You.... Allah (swt) how can it be that from all the people, I feel so blessed with you? I would love to be with you, but then, can I have a request? I don't think so, but I ask it anyway, as you know my thoughts.... so why shouldn't I ask: can I take my beloved one with me? Can you, not take her away before you take me?

Alhamdulillah, praise Your name I would say!

    Tsunami

Alright.. this is my first entry here...
Bangladesh miraculously was saved from the wrath of the Tsnami's. but, the other countries, Indonesia specially, what happened there is impossibly hard to believe. Now, looking at the death toll makes me scared. It rather reminds me of the cyclone of 1991 that hit Chittagong ( then I was there) and other coastal areas of Bangladesh: 138,000 people died in one night. But this tremblor, and the Tsunamis of 2004 were there for a few minues, subhanAllah, wiped out just as many!

I am rather upset at the relief effort by the American government. They are calling themselves generous because they pldeged to give $35 million only, where Bush's inauguration festivites is going to cost $45 million. I am not sure, everything is soooo frustrating. We are stingy, whether we like to be called singy or not. Here is a great NyTimes article: hope you'll read it:
    Are we stingy: Yes.
